Google has made a significant change to the length of title and description. Google has increased the available width of the search result titles slowly rolling out for all users since May 12, 2016. Google was testing for this update for past couple of weeks also changes can be seen to the width of the left-hand column increasing expanding containers from 512 pixels to 600 (a 17% increase).

Google keeps on experimenting changes offering most appropriate and beneficial update for end users as well as for search engines. Title tags display have been increased to 70–71 characters which was 50-60 character previously. This can allow to fit enough another one or two words, depending on the letters used.


Meta Description has also increased by 16-20 characters that is 100 charecters per line. The two line meta description increases to three lines. These changes can be seen any time that could be part of A/B testing.

If you are thinking to increase or change title or Meta description with influence to these changes which you might have notices in last few days, our advice is to wait and watch as these may be Google experiment and they have not confirmed these changes officially.
